Profile

Makoto Itoh received his B.S., M.S., and Doctor's degrees in engineering from University of Tsukuba in 1993, 1995, and 1999, respectively. From 1998 to 2002 he was a Research Associate at the University of Electro-Communications, Chofu, Japan. Since 2013, he has been a Professor with the Faculty of Engineering, Information and Systems, University of Tsukuba. His research interests include enhancement of operator's situation awareness, adaptive automation, and building of appropriate trust as well as prevention of overtrust and distrust. He is now serving as a co-chair of IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Shared Control. He is a member of IFAC TC 9.2 "Social Impact of Automation," and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
